Hi and welcome to my overview of the TP-LINK TL-WN851N pci wifi adapter. This will be a short review of the device  so i won’t go into great detail on any feature but will try and mention as much as i can about the device.

Overview/Contents

The TL-WN851N is a pci based wifi adapter which uses the Draft-N wifi standard to give increased speed. The device comes in a nice looking green and white box which provides all the necessary specifications about the device, in the box you get the standard installation guide, the card itself, 2 antenna’s and a drivers CD.

Installation

The device is straight forward to install slotting straight into a spare PCI slot and being fixed into place with a screw, the 2 antenna’s are then screwed on. Setting up the card in windows was also straight forward as with any other device but if you should need it the Installation manual guides you easily through setting up the drivers and/or software but i found not to need it. Once the drivers and/or software was installed i found connecting to my wireless router to be very simple and since my wireless router is the only one within range it was connected straight away after setting up my encryption in windows before connecting to my network.

Usage

Although this particular card is a Draft N card i was connecting it to a wireless G router  (don’t have an N router yet). Upon loading up my firefox i found the card to perform very well giving me more than acceptable browsing speed and when using sits likes youtube, dailymotion….etc i found that it done a very good job at streaming video. Since i installed this card on a fresh copy of XP there were a few bits of software i needed and this gave me a chance to test out downloading. When downloading from sites that allowed high download speeds the card proved how good it was getting files in a few seconds rather than a few minutes or a few minutes rather than 10+ minutes and even on sites where high download speed weren’t available i still found the card to perform really well.

Value for money/ Conclusion
Having picked this card up for under £20 i think its great value for money as there are many Draft N cards/USB adapter which are priced double or even triple the price that don’t seem to have anything over this card expect for a bigger brand name.

To conclude i will say that if your in the market for an inexpensive Draft N PCI card then this is certainly worth it as it performs very well and don’t cost alot.
